Art in Alta Badia:
The artistic and cultural heritage of Val Badia
Since the beginning of time, the Ladin population has always proudly protected its artistic and cultural heritage in Alta Badia. Nowadays, numerous artistic treasures can still be admired in the splendid territory in South Tyrol.
Churches and chapels of Alta Badia in baroque shapes have been perfectly preserved and provide the main evidence of the strong religiosity of the Ladin population. The frescos and historic constructions in the Dolomites provide evidence of the rich history of churches and ancient castles. An example hereof are the Residence Castel Colz in La Villa, the Saint Barbara Chapel in La Valle with the image of the crucifixion, the former home of Saint Joseph Freinademetz, and frescos dating back to the 18th century and several other operas which were restored at the beginning of the 19th century.
The fascinating artistic heritage of Alta Badia makes this territory one of the most interesting in the entire Dolomite region, an ideal summer and winter destination for those who want to explore the historic and cultural beauties of South Tyrol.
